Create an Action

Both user and group actions are created as the same action type. The API you use to log the action determines if it is used to track user or group activity.

1. Open Nitro Studio > Activity > Actions > New > Action.
   

2. Set basic properties

Field	Description
Name	The name used to log the action. Names are case-sensitive. Make sure the name is 0-255 characters, and the naming convention supports your use case, analytics strategy, and technical architecture. Best Practice Name actions using an object_verb nomenclature with all capitals and underscores. For example, DOCUMENT_UPLOADED. Note: If you change and update an action name, you cannot revert to the original name. To revert an action to its original name, create another action with the original name, reassign missions to the new action, and then delete the action you no longer need.
Action description	A short description of the action. The description is only visible to admin users in Nitro Studio.
Rate limit	The maximum number of times per user that this action can be logged in seconds, minutes, hours, or days. Nitro will only log the action once per user within the set time limit. Nitro uses the time the last action was logged to determine when the next action can be logged (e.g. not a calendar day). Show me an example You rate limit the LOGIN action to 1 per day. If a user logs in Monday at 8:00am, Nitro won't log another LOGIN action for that user until 8:01am or later on Tuesday. If the user logs in Tuesday at 10:00am, then Nitro won't log the next action until after 10:01am on Wednesday. The "clock" resets to the time the last LOGIN action is recorded for that user. If you call multiple actions at once and the rate limit is exceeded for one or more of them, the action(s) exceeding the rate limit are rejected and returned as "invalidTags" in the response. The other actions log normally.
Flag as Passive Action	Set the action as passive when the action is tracking additional data that's sent to Nitro on the user's behalf. For example: Active action - An activity that someone is prompted to do and they complete it (watch this video). Passive action - An activity that is tracked on the users behalf, but they cannot do it in real-time (receive a recognition).

3. Click Save.
4. If necessary, add labels to the action.
5. Implement the action on your site with one of the following methods:
   • POST /users/{userId}/actions - when logging an action completed by an individual.
   • POST /groups/{groupId}/actions - when logging an action completed by a group.

Copy an Action

1. Open Nitro Studio > Activity > Actions.
2. Do one of the following:
   • In the actions list, hover over the action and click Copy ().
   • Open the action you want to copy, and then click Copy ().
3. Change the action name and any other properties, and then click Save.
   

Delete an Action

You cannot delete an action that is being used in a mission. Deleting an action does not delete the action from a user's history.

1. Open Nitro Studio > Activity > Actions.
2. Do one of the following:
   • In the actions list, hover over the action and click Delete ().
   • Open the action you want to delete, and then click Delete ().
